Meet the Counselor

Hi!  My name is Alicia Byelich and I'm glad you stopped by.  I don't think you are here by accident, whether you choose to come to Straight Paths Counseling, LLC, or find a better fit someplace else, I believe you stopped on this page for a reason which will help to navigate your next steps.

In 2001, I graduated from Eastern University with a Bachelor's Degree majoring in Psychology.  Using this degree, I worked inpatient in a behavioral health facility and moved into crisis work in a local ER; answering a crisis hotline and evaluated, listened and helped determine the level of care needed for patients who came to the ER struggling with their mental health.  In 2023, I graduated from Cairn University with my Master's of Science Degree in Counseling and am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania.  For the past four years I have provided both individual and couples counseling.

Professionally, I work from a holistic model, integrating various evidence-based practices tailored to each client's needs.  I offer a non-judgmental and safe space where we will together navigate the challenges you are facing.  I consider myself a very "human" counselor, meaning I am authentically me in the counseling room; I will listen to you, empathize, joke a little, help you feel like you "aren't going crazy" by sharing some of my own life experiences, and teach you skills that have been researched and shown to help with whatever struggles you are facing.   I assure you, you may feel trapped right now, but, there is hope, I have seen healing time and time again as clients work towards their goals and the life they envision for themselves.

Personally, I have been married for over 24 years and have three sons.  My relationship with Jesus Christ is very important to me and integrated into my daily life.  I enjoy reading, being at the beach, the color purple, spending time with my family, kayaking, and wind (but not tornado strength wind :-)!)

Facts and Questions:

You offer Christian Counseling, is this the same as Biblical Counseling?

While your counselor may, at times, integrate a Bible verse into the session when it applies to your experiences, Christian Counseling is not the same as Biblical Counseling.  Christian Counseling is an integration of faith with evidenced based therapy practices from a Christian worldview sharing values that are Biblical.  In Biblical Counseling the counselor typically uses only scripture to counsel.

I don't identify as a Christian; I don't even believe in God, can I still get counseled by you?

100% Yes!  Straight Paths Counseling, LLC welcomes all faiths, those who do not believe in God, and those who are not sure.  Actually, over half of the clients I have worked with do not share the same theological beliefs as myself. (To name a few: atheist, Mormon, agnostic, Jehovah Witness) Christian Counseling is only integrated into the sessions if requested; evidenced based practices are always used.

Do you see children?

No, we believe that children should be counseled by those who are specially trained in child therapy.  Straight Paths Counseling, LLC services those who are ages 18 and up.

Do you take insurance?

Straight Paths Counseling, LLC is self pay.  However, you may contact your insurance to find out what your "out of network" benefits are.  A "super - bill" can be given to you to submit to your insurance company.  This bill will give the information that your insurance requires (length of time for session, type of counseling, diagnosis and amount paid) and your insurance may provide you reimbursement for the session according to your plan.

If insurance is not being used, a "Good Faith Estimate" is available.

How much does each session cost?

Individual Sessions:   $125            Couple's Sessions:      $150

We also offer a sliding scale fee.  If you are experiencing financial concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to discuss options.

What types of payment do you accept?

Straight Paths Counseling, LLC utilizes a HIPPA compliant platform called IVY Pay which accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, HSA cards and FSA cards.  We also accept checks made out to Straight Paths Counseling, LLC or the exact amount in cash.  (Please note cash is not kept on premise so exact change is required.)

How long are sessions?

Sessions last approximately 55 minutes.
